Dining in Manhattan: Asiadog

Posted in Brunch, Dinner, Lunch, Restaurants with tags , , , , , , , , on August 29, 2011 by quiksilverpronyguide

Ever find yourself craving a delicious, juicy, grilled organic (chicken, beef or veggie) hot dog topped with, say, kimchi or Asian sesame slaw?  Or Japanese curry with kimchi apples?  Or spicy ketchup, jalapeño mustard, and crushed salt and pepper potato chips? (Can you tell we’re hungry?) Asiadog’s got you covered.  Started in the back yard of a friend’s bar, Asiadog has expanded to locations that include the Brooklyn Flea, Central Park’s Summerstage, Terminal 5, and pretty much any in-the-know event.  They even opened their own shop on the border of Chinatown, and it’s the perfect place to grab a bite whilst kicking around Nolita or Soho.

Dining in Long Beach: Bob’s Natural Foods

Feeling a little rundown, and the Quiksilver Pro hasn’t even started yet?  Too many nights at Mother’s Ruin effectively ruining YOU?  A SoCal’er missing Erewhon or Mother’s Market?  Then do what the locals do: go to Bob’s Natural Foods.  Owners Bob and Allison have owned and operated the store since 1975, making them Long Island’s oldest independent natural food store.  In addition to their cafe that carries smoothies, vegan and gluten-free specials, organic fruit juices, wraps and sammies, Bob and Allison also have a huge assortment of vitamins – key for those B12 mornings – as well as an entire all-natural grocery store.  Even better, Bob’s is just around the corner from the Allegria and the contest site.

Dining in Long Island: Vito’s

If Vito’s was a person, he’d be a big Italian guy that was all, “Oi mate, how’s about a pint and some chips?  Fuhgeddaboutit!”  ‘Cause see, the big thing about Vito’s is its fish and chips – not pizza, as the name might imply.  Prime location right on the beach side, next to the showers.  Showers!

Classic deli sandwiches, including those of the breakfast (like bacon, egg, and cheese) and hero (like the “Raging Bull”) variety.  Note: the heroes are massive and can easily serve as two meals.  Also – they deliver to the beach!

From the owners of Paddy McGee’s comes another great waterfront joint, with a rowdy bar scene and the occasional live band.  Perfect for your liquid or lobster dinner after the beach.
